REVIEW: NFL Blitz for XBox 360 and PlayStation 3

Ten years after dorm rooms buzzed with bone crushing hits, NFL Blitz has been rebooted by EA Sports. Sadly, whether its the NFLs fault or EAs, the game doesnt quite live up to the fond memories shared by millions.

Mega Drive Longplay [180] Zero Tolerance

www.longplays.org Played by kireev20000 It was one of the only Mega DriveGenesis first person shooters. Due to the limitations of the hardware, the players view of the 3D environment was restricted to a fraction of the screen, with the players HUD, a map of the surrounding area, and the player characters ID card comprising the rest of the screen space. Still, it featured impressive visual effects for its time and especially for the Genesis, a system with hardware that lacked much of the necessary scaling and rotation technologies normally needed to create even the most rudimentary appearance of 3D environments (such as rival Super NES built-in "Mode 7" technology and "Super FX Chip" add-on). In fact, the smoothness and speed at which Zero Tolerance ran was said to rival many of the lower-end versions of Doom available at the time, most notably the one for the Super NES.

Video Games In The Future

With video game technology advancing so fast and so far from where it started, one can’t help but to entertain the idea of where it’s going to go from here. After all, that is part of a larger creative process and we’d like to think that our writings contribute even in some small way. One of the earliest video games that we can remember is Commodore’s “Pong.” But never did we think the industry would have reached the point where it is today.  One thing is for sure however, and that’s the gaming is pushing full force ahead.

Today we did a little fantasizing to see where our imagination and desires would take us.  The following offers some suggestions of what could be done short of a little thing called, “impossible.”

We’re a little intrigued with the “Sun Game Glasses” idea. Wearing a pair of dark sunglasses and using the technology implemented by Nintendo’s “Wii” system, we could literally watch a game take place right before our eyes and then interact with it using a device that’s about the size of a pen. Since this isn’t exactly a new idea, we’re curious to watch what develops from University of South Australia’s ‘ARQuake’ project1 – a springboard for this kind of gaming to develop in the near future for sure.

Another cool idea we’d like to see erupt within the gaming industry is the ability to talk to the characters inside a game. Some games allow players to textually speak to game characters already, but we’d like to see this pushed a little further. We’d like to be able to orally interact with characters: ask questions, joke around, warn and speak to them as if we were speaking to another human being. And we’d like to hear these characters talk back! It’s the ultimate artificial intelligence opportunity and although it would probably be years before this technology would be available on a wide scale, we’re sure it would be a hit.

Will we ever get to the point where we can play inside a simulated environment the way the characters in Star Trek: The Next Generation could play? Virtual reality is getting close, but the reality of the simulation is gone the moment we put on the silly-looking goggles and gloves. In order for simulation of this sort to work, there has to be as little a barrier between gamers and the game as possible. We don’t what to just think we’re inside a game, we want to feel that we’re inside a game and to be honest, we don’t want to have to go somewhere outside our home to do so.

The television or computer screen will suffice for now, but in the future, we’re going to want to be surrounded with the elements that make gaming the wonder that it is today. We’re going to want to transform our dens or bedrooms into a virtual alien ship or simulated jungle. In short, we want a new world.

One possible obstacle to bringing this fantasy into our living rooms is public acceptance. Would the public be ready for such a high level of entertainment? And could the public handle it? Immediately following Nintendo’s Wii release, customers were ready to complain that they wanted their old controller back! So as with any new development, there will surely be unintended consequences and although we’re gung-ho for these types of advances, we also share concerns about the impact it would have on an audience that isn’t ‘virtually ready.”

As a result, we can certainly envision a few laws introduced that restricted the use of our fantasy gaming. We already have some laws that attempt the same now and in our opinion, that’s a good thing. The last thing we want to encounter in gaming is physical harm – especially when we’re trying to enjoy virtual entertainment!

Online Video Gaming

Video games are very appealing to people of all ages. One of the biggest problems though with buying a gaming console and games for it is the cost. The various gaming consoles can cost hundreds of dollars. In addition you are looking at around fifty dollars per game if you buy them retail.

With online video gaming though you don’t have to pay for any of that. All of the games can be accessed online. Most sites offer them free of charge so don’t bother with those that want to charge you a monthly membership to access the video games. Of course to get the most enjoyment out of this option you need to have a high speed internet connection. You also need to have speakers so you can hear the sound.

You have several different options when it comes to online video gaming. You can play against the computer, play against a friend, and even play against other people online that you have never met. The graphics are wonderful for online video games so you don’t have to worry about the quality of them. If you have a slow internet connection though you will find it to be very disappointing.

Some people find it annoying to use the keyboard to their computer for playing video games though. This can easily be resolved though by getting various accessories. There are controllers and even steering wheels and pedals you can attach to your computer in order to enjoy the various video games. They can be purchased anywhere you find video games or online.

Some manufacturers of gaming consoles and video games don’t always offer the newest games for free online though. They want people to go out and buy them due to the cost involved in researching the concepts and creating them. If you must try out the newest video games when they come out you will find online video gaming to be disappointing.

For those that are willing to accept what is offered though you will find plenty of selection to choose from. There are old favorites to be found from decades ago that you may remember. There are also newer ones that you may not be familiar with. You can easily access the rules for these games though so you will be able to play them with no trouble at all.

The Next Generation In Video Game Systems

It’s been a long time since people have seen a new video gaming console in the market. Many people have been crazy about Sony’s PlayStation 2, about Microsoft Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube.

However, this was about 5 or 6 years ago. Now, people are anticipating the next generation in video game systems that claim to change the way people see video game consoles. With the latest technology integrated in the new line of video game consoles, many people are anticipating the release of the new gaming console of the three large companies.

Here is a glimpse of what you can expect with the next generation gaming console that are still being anticipated by lots of gaming fans all over the world.

Here are the different upcoming and highly anticipated gaming consoles and their specifications:

Sony PlayStation 3

Sony PlayStation 3 will be released on November of 2006 and claims to use Blu-ray discs as its media format. The Blu-ray disc is capable of holding six times as much data than today’s DVDs. With this kind of feature, it will open new doors for game developers to develop new and better quality games.

For graphics, Sony PlayStation 3 will be using the RSX (Reality synthesizer) which was based on Nvidia technology. Sony Claims that the Graphics Processing Unit or GPU integrated in the PlayStation is capable of 128bit pixel reduction and 1080p resolution. The RSX will also be capable of displaying better graphics with 512MB memory and is also capable of shader operations and 51 billion dot products per second.

Microsoft Xbox

It is a fact that the look of this new console is very attractive. But, what’s more important is what you will find under the shell. Microsoft also developed an impressive gaming system that can compete with the next generation of gaming systems. The Microsoft Xbox 360 will be integrated with an IBM PowerPC-based CPU that runs as fast as 3.2GHz and over half a gigabyte of RAM.

The Xbox 360 will also contain one of the best graphics technology ever made by ATI that is capable of advanced antialiasing and shader effects. What this means is that it will have 720p and 1080i wide screen high definition TV. These features will double the resolution of the original Xbox that maxed out only at 480p. This new game system developed by Microsoft will also support up to four wireless controls.

Nintendo Revolution (renamed as Nintendo Wii)

Nintendo is also one of the gaming consoles that are currently developing one of the most anticipated gaming systems by gaming fans. Nintendo claims to release a video game system called the Nintendo Wii.

Nintendo Wii is integrated with PowerPC CPU Broadway manufactured by IBM and has a 90nm SOI CMOS process. A controller that looks like a regular TV remote control will contain motion sensors that will be useful to upcoming Wii games, such as Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess and Red Steel. This technology is first of its kind in the gaming console world and is also being anticipated by a lot of people.

Nintendo Wii will be integrated with an ATI graphics card and a RAM memory as high as 512 MB.  It will also feature wireless controllers, 2 USB ports and a built-in antenna for WiFi internet access. However, it will not support HD output but with a 480p progressive scan and wide screen friendly mode, it will still essentially look good on HDTV.

Wii will also have a backward compatibility feature, which means that it will be able to support previously developed Nintendo games, even old games from NES, Super NES, and GameCube.

Nintendo Wii also declared that their system will be able to access and surf the internet and will also enable you to access other Wii channels that you will surely entertain you.

These are the three highly anticipated video game systems that claim to revolutionize the way people see video game consoles. With these features, you”ll really never know what new gaming console will appear in the near future.

So, if you want to know more about these new generation video game systems, you should wait for the upcoming release and try it out in stores near you.

Keeping On Top Of Gaming News

The gaming industry is a huge industry that consumes as much news space as any other widely known enterprise. It’s so large in fact, if you take a walk down the aisle of any store that sells magazines, you’ll find at least two or three gaming magazines to select from – and this includes stores that you would least expect to find them in, like the Walgreens Drug Store for Pete’s sake.

What’s even better, is that regardless of what your skill level with games is, you can take advantage of this news coverage and use what you learn to improve you knowledge, your equipment, and your play. You can additionally find out about gaming events that you can attend or even participate in.

To start, take a trip to your local game shop. Game Crazy and Game Stop are two popular gaming stores that regularly carry related magazines (although you may discover that your local game shop carries only one). One of the things that you’ll want to do while looking over these magazines is to compare prices of both games and game systems. The Gamer Informer magazine shows no preference, and provides a one to two inch thick critique of the newest stuff out there. Inside this resource, you’ll find commentary on the Wii, EA games, the PS3, the Xbox 360, PC games, the PS2, the PSP and the DS system.

As a no holes barred manual to what’s hot and what’s not, gaming magazines show you how news in the mainstream media affects game production and how it can affect not only your purchase decisions, but the type of games you play as well. It isn’t uncommon for a game to experience a rise in sales just from being mentioned in the 5:00 news hour.   You could learn what’s happening with new and competitive gaming businesses before investing in their products, however if you dig a little deeper, you can even find out what’s influencing the market that you’re a part of.

Here’s an example of what we mean:

“Today, professional gaming took a giant leap forward. DIRECTV, Inc., the nation’s leading digital service provider and key partners are taking the professional gaming industry to the next level with the creation of a new video gaming professional sports league that will be the standard for the industry and redefine the consumer gaming experience.”1

You can also discover what influence the news has on gaming within an international level:

“The British Academy of Film and Television Arts today announced that its 2007 British Academy Video Games Awards will be held on the evening of Tuesday 23 October at Battersea Evolution in London.”2

Interested in console specific information? How about Nintendo:

“Nintendo plans to boost Wii production (AP via Yahoo! News) Nintendo’s president acknowledged Friday that the shortage of the hit Wii game machine was “abnormal,” and promised production was being boosted to increase deliveries by next month.”3

Of course, there’s always the chance that you’ll find out things you’re weren’t exactly supposed to find in the first place:

“Halo 3 gameplay leaked online (The Inquirer) A VIDEO HAS has appeared online showing seven minutes of fresh, crisp Halo 3 gameplay.”4

From these few, small examples, you’ve learned about the creation of a new video gaming professional sports league, the Academy Video Games Awards, a boost in Wii production, and the leak of a “certain” video from a “certain” game. Just imagine what you’d find out with a monthly subscription to GamePro (www.gamepro.com), Computer Games Magazine (www.cgonline.com), or GameSlice (www.gameslice.com)!

Free Video Gaming

Playing video games can be exciting and challenging. Yet one factor that people get tired of is the cost. Makers of gaming consoles, the game cartridges, and even arcade games have gotten rich off of the concepts. Most people really get into the games they play so they want to access it again and again. There are so ways to make it happen though with free video gaming.

Manufacturers of video games want to make sure they have worked out all the glitches before they release it. They often turn to their consumers to test them out for them. This is a great way to access the newest gaming concepts for free. In some instances you will even get paid a small amount of money for taking part in the events. You can sign up to test them at the websites for these games. Of course they are going to expect some quality information in return.

The internet has allowed people to enjoy the most options when it comes to free video gaming. With this concept though you aren’t going to be able to play the newest games in their entirety. You may be able to play pieces of them due to the demos placed out there. They are bait more than anything else though. These type of free video gaming are set up to get you to go out and buy it. They create a buzz so that more people hear about them and thus decide to try them as well.

The majority of the free video games you will find online are the older ones. Of course many of us are still thrilled to play Pac-Man so we don’t care. If you are like me the new video games have too many options and too many rules so I stick with the older ones. They offer me plenty of entertainment while I am at my computer.

There are some locations where you can go to try out free video games as well. Some non profit centers such as the Boys & Girls Club of America offer them to be used. Many colleges have them set up in recreation centers for students to enjoy as well.

How To Compare Video Game Systems

Video Games are vastly disseminated all over the world. Questions can never be asked regarding their capacity to entertain and the ability to fully satisfy a gamer. In the past researches, it was found out that roughly millions of people in the United States have access to video and pc games. This just means that a majority of the population is looking around and trying to discover what’s available for them.

People or enthusiasts can be leveled into three; 1) beginners 2) frequent gamers 3) experts. These three are bound to one arena where they will meet: the gaming world.

These people have their own questions in mind and are trying to personally find out the answers to their questions.

For a beginner, the question may be something like; what will I do with this game? This question may seem very simple but needs patience to answer. Such question would change and would elevate as time goes by and as the ability of the player improves. From this stage, their focus is neither to look for games nor to discover new game systems or consoles. Their mission is to learn and master the game no matter what game it is regardless of the console they use.

The second level of gamer is something caught between seeking and constantly going with the flow. These types of gamers now actually find some time to discover new things and ask question like, what other games are there for me. This question is embodied with the desire to satisfy the game and not just to play with it.

The third must not be misinterpreted with an addicted player or any other worse negative term for it. These people are actually the ones not just looking for games but also make ways so other gamers may understand them and develop the game further. They do not just play games, they even interpret it. They are expert enough that they would try as many games as they could and try to master it then make some articles or reviews about what they found out with the game. They are actually doing comparisons.

Comparing a video game system is very important for these three levels of enthusiasts. This will help them master whatever they are currently into. In addition, reviews and comparisons aid other gamers in finding out which games are worth looking into and which game consoles to buy.

But how do these people come up with a review and what are the things that they do in order to write one? • The very first thing that one must do is to play the video game itself. Play it until you finish the video game. If it is a leveled game then play it until the last level.

• Take note of the effects, the color and the other features of the game that you may share with the readers. All physical observation must be related to readers for their information.

• Relate to the readers the basic information that they need to know about the certain game. They will probably need to know about the console compatibility, the release date of the game, the name, the publisher, the platform, etc. For pc games, it is very important to first relate to the reader the system specification requirement of the game. Try to inflict your own observation on it.

• Give the readers a gist of what the game is. If it is a race, then tell them specifically that it is a race and what kind of race the game is. There are so many types of video or computer games that are now available in the market, all with different ways to play and with variable number of players that can play. These facts must also be included in the review or comparison.

• Give your opinion in the sense that they will agree with you when they will try the game you are comparing. There are so many things that you may want to point out in the game. The scoring system, the level of difficulty, the length of the game and so on, these are just examples of things that you may critic.

• Compare the game with another game with the same playing method. The game that you will compare it with must a game that you have already played with. Give the strengths and the weaknesses of each game according to your observation.

• Lastly, conclude in a manner that you balance things. You may also cling to the other game that is really good for you but do not ever forget the good side of the other game. Compare video game systems in an unbiased way.
